Social Service
Social responsibility means helping one another and performing tasks within the community. In the library or at table service, in the fire service or as form captain – in Neubeuern everybody contributes. This is how we raise our pupils to be open-minded, socially competent personalities.

From the senior years on pupils are required to undertake a social service in addition to being a member of a guild. This can for example mean tutoring a new pupil, but also membership in our castle fire service or in the first-aid guild. That way personal qualities are developed that are indispensable in later life.

There are numerous opportunities to assume real responsibilities at Schloss Neubeuern. In addition to the classical forms of school representation, we have come to recognize, for example, the castle fire brigade as an indispensable part of castle life. As tutors or private teachers, at the castle café (“Coffee Corner”) or as boarding school drivers, students look after others with full responsibility. From a certain age, it is expected of all boarders to perform a service for the community for at least 90 minutes every week.

Current Social Services
„Bar Team“ / Festivities Committee
Since this school year, the new weekend structure allows more regular events at our discoteque, which is now also smoke-free. In order to contribute towards the success of these disco evenings, students in Year 10 and above can sign up for the “Bar Team”. In this team, they apply themselves by selling drinks, putting on music or “simply” keeping the books in order. The big parties, organized and put on by the Festivities Committee two to three times a year, are legendary.

Library
The library service ensures the library is supervised at certain times of the day, thus to allow fellow pupils to retreat to this central room in the castle to research and learn, usually in the evenings between 20:00 and 21:30. The aim of the guild of the same name is to get to know and uphold the structure and order of a library.

Coffee Corner
As an establishment run by students for students, the Coffee Corner is an evening gathering place for the social castle life several times a week. With its own management, the Coffee Corner team is about preparing and selling drinks, snacks and pizzas and serving in the café. Independent, reliable and friendly employees are always being looked for.

Fire Brigade (alternatively as a Guild)
This is where young adults can build up their enthusiasm about service in the fire brigade, thus to be able to be employed in the voluntary fire fighting service at the appropriate age and after successful qualification.

Drinks Service
Even though the boarders are well provided for, some appreciate having a drinks crate full of drinks to their own taste in their room. So that they do not need to be brought by parents or picked up on foot from the town, there is a drinks service that takes orders and runs a small salesroom.

Boarding School Drivers
Employees are not always available for all driving services. For routine trips, and also as drivers of the second boarding school bus for a house meeting etc., we have our boarding school drivers. After demonstrating a certain driving experience, they are entrusted with boarding school busses with up to eight passengers. Additional driver training each year increases the safety in handling such large vehicles.

Prefects
Only few trust themselves to assume the diverse and difficult duties of the Prefect in a boarding house. Waking the pupils up, keeping order, and also planning house meetings or supervising study periods are some of the possible duties. In order to be a true support to the mentor, one needs assertiveness and tact.

Tutors or "Castle Buddies"
The main duty of tutors is to make it easier for a young and usually new pupil to find his way around the boarding school. It is a great responsibility to build up a trusting relationship and to take on the role of “big sister” or “big brother” for one’s tutee.

Assistant teacher
An older pupil can also support others if he tries to pass on his pronounced strengths in one or another subject to younger pupils. Many a person is helped by precisely those practical tips, that somewhat different formulation or the memory aids of a pupil who is enthusiastic about a subject, such that the penny drops, or the logic and method are better understood.
