Castle concert for the 100th anniversary of the school
01.03.2025
As part of the chamber concert series organised by “Konzerte Schloss Neubeuern e.V.”, the Festsaal was the venue for a fitting tribute to the 154th birthday of Julie, Baroness von Wendelstadt.
One hundred years ago, Julie, Baroness von Wendelstadt, founded the Neubeuern country school and declared her own birthday on 1 March as the founding day of our school. A good reason to celebrate. The date of the chamber concert was a particularly nice coincidence, as the boarding school, which was almost deserted during the carnival holidays, was able to celebrate its 100th birthday with wonderful music and around 180 birthday guests.
After all, Neubeuern Castle and the association can look back on a long and successful history together. The idea of making the magnificent ballroom accessible to a wide audience for concerts was the brainchild of Robert Lienhöft, the foundation’s director at the time. He commissioned the pianist and teacher Kurt Hantsch to realise this project, who joined forces with the director of the Raubling Cultural Association, Dr Helmut Hoche. The first concerts took place in 1970 and soon met with an increasing response from the audience. Kurt Hantsch, who also had a close friendship with the pianist Herbert Schuch, whose talent he was already enthusiastic about in his early years, remained in charge of selecting the artists for around fifty years. Alongside hundreds of internationally renowned artists, Herbert Schuch has given countless wonderful concerts in the Festsaal and is now the musical director of the Konzertverein.
On Saturday evening, he played works by Franz Schubert and Johannes Brahms together with Julia Hagen (cello) and Veronika Eberle (violin).
In honour of the founder of the school
Katrin Burkamp and Reinhard Käsinger welcomed the always knowledgeable and loyal audience to these special concert performances on behalf of the foundation. As equally loyal supporters and representatives of the history of Schloss Neubeuern, they invited the “birthday guests” to immerse themselves a little in the cultural history of Baron and Baroness von Wendelstadt and the numerous artist guests at Schloss Neubeuern during the concert break.
Time travel
Neubeuern Castle
The concert audience gladly accepted the invitation and strolled through the exhibition in the library and dining room with canapés and a glass of sparkling wine. Many thanks to Julia Schäfer for the wonderful photos and her support with the flag-raising, to our hard-working craftspeople and to the kitchen for the snacks.
