Economic Forum November
19.11.2024
The Economic Forum on 19 November 2024 was all about health research, digitalisation and AI.
Each individual event at the Business Forum has its own special format. On this evening, all the guests and students were thrilled by the interesting and astonishing insights into the future of healthcare provided by Prof Dr Jochen Maas in an understandable and entertaining way.
Maas has been shaping the scientific landscape at Sanofi since 1992, where he headed the German research and development site for over 10 years and was a member of the global steering committee. As a biologist, veterinarian and veterinary radiologist, his many years of experience make him one of the leading experts in the industry.
In addition to many other activities, he has supported the Cell and Gene Therapy Centre in Berlin as an ambassador since 2024.
Prof Dr Jochen Maas is an example of a scientist who enthusiastically shares his findings with the world and thus has a lasting influence on the future of medicine – as was the case this evening at Schloss Neubeuern, where he spoke about megatrends in medicine. Topics such as personalised medicine, CRISPR gene scissors and the One Health approach showed how research can change lives – and what challenges still lie ahead.
The sixth form students in particular, who are already interested in studying health, medicine and research, were highly interested in Maas’ words on developments in this field.
The fact that they are promising candidates for the research of the future was impressively demonstrated by the team of our STEM students. With his research project on food analysis using the example of beef, Xiaotian Zheng from Q12 was able to give the audience a scientifically proven recommendation: “It’s definitely worth eating organic meat from healthy cattle!”
Martijn Smink from year 11 presented the teamwork of an APP development that uses AI to read atomic line spectra. Together with Moritz Morsch, the head of our STEM centre, he gave a short demonstration of the successful development.
Even Prof Dr Jochen Maas expressed his appreciation to the students. All in all, this business forum sent a clear message to young people: science is not only THE important component of the future, it is also exciting and fulfilling. Amr El-Jafari from Q12 is also part of the STEM student team and moderated the varied programme on stage. With their courageous performance, all the students showed that our Business Forum is a unique stage and platform for knowledge transfer.
We are very proud that this four-part series of events has been so enthusiastically received not only by our pupils but also by our guests.

Successful presentation with a spectacular supporting programme.
The ballroom was once again filled to capacity for this business forum. After Amr El-Jafari successfully conducted the interview with Prof Dr Jochen Maas, he and Susanne Schörghuber hosted the evening’s performances. As a surprise, Pascal Dulay-Winter gave away an exclusive GIN Christmas calendar from Liquid Director for the raffle, before the buffet and drinks were followed by a relaxed evening of networking. Guests and students alike were keen to talk to the speaker, who was happy to answer their questions.
