Strengthening roots – broadening horizons
This is the motto of our anniversary year, which was greeted with great emotion by all pupils and staff on Friday evening. The Board of Trustees, the Parents’ Council, the Friends & Supporters Association and the Scholarship Foundation were also invited and enjoyed a very cheerful evening in a relaxed, informal atmosphere.

Proud of one hundred years of Schliss Neubeuern – one hundred years of “knowing what to do”
This evening once again clearly demonstrated that Schloss Neubeuern is an incomparable, very special boarding school. In the festively decorated ballroom, Jörg Schönfeld, Chairman of the Foundation, opened the evening and honoured our boarding school for its centenary – in the spirit of its founder, Julie von Wendelstadt. As if she were still alive among us, he reminded all those present of her life’s work and assured us that she would certainly embrace us Neubeureners with great pride this evening. In his speech, foundation board member and headmaster Thomas Straßer emphasised the strength of our roots, from which the school has always developed innovatively and now wants to start a new century with strength and motivation. In a joint interactive project year 2025, the school will not only reflect on its history, but also broaden its horizons with exciting projects in line with “Vision 2050 – Education 5.0”.

Reinhard Käsinger in particular, who has been visualising the unique history of Neubeuern Castle for many years, proudly paid homage on stage to both the founder Julie von Wendelstadt and her niece Marie-Therese Countess von Degenfeld-Schonburg, who made it possible for Neubeuern to open the foundation in 1948. He was supported in this tribute by Valentina Eickholt from Year 5, who recited a poem from the guest books on the founding of the school in 1925, and by our guest of honour, Rose-Marie Gräfin von Degenfeld-Schonburg. As a close relative of Marie-Therese, she very lovingly gave some insights into the character of the women who are of such great importance to our school.

Between the speeches, music teacher Christine Rothmayer hosted the musical programme, which made the evening one of the most beautiful events that we will remember for a long time to come. Right at the beginning, pupil Elisabeth Terentieva enchanted the audience with her violin playing, accompanied by Xiaotian Zheng on the grand piano, with the “Meditation” from the opera Thais by Jules Massenet. Our students were particularly pleased with the performance of their mentor Sara Eterno and our former music teacher Markus Weng. With their “Song to the Moon” from the opera Rusalka by Antonín Dvořák, they have already touched our hearts deeply, but this evening it was simply breathtaking. Our alumnus Christoph Declara then gave us a wonderful gift with Frédéric Chopin. The ballroom was romantically filled with the sounds of his “Andante spianato et Grande Polonaise brillante, Op. 22”. He was also responsible for the highlight of the evening. As a member of the Neubeur choir “Beurer CantaRhei”, he gave us the honour of witnessing the radiant performance of 19 ladies and gentlemen, who sang four wonderful songs at the end of the evening.

We are very happy and very grateful that we were able to experience these two hours together, which were also greatly appreciated by our students.
At a convivial get-together with a sensational buffet prepared by Robert Hechenbichler’s kitchen team, everyone was able to reflect on the wonderful evening and enjoy being together. Many thanks to the ladies from the event and service team and from the sideboard – who spoilt us so selflessly and wonderfully.
