Successful chess tournament for Schloss Neubeuern
On 24 January, Schloss Neubeuern took part in the Upper Bavarian School Chess Team Championships in Germering (near Munich). Here at the Carl-Spitzweg-Gymnasium, our eight-strong chess delegation was able to put their skills to the test from 10.00 am to 4.30 pm. We were accompanied by our teacher and guild leader Cedric Eis, who has been a passionate chess player himself since his youth and supported our team both organisationally and professionally.
Full of energy, we competed with two teams, a boys’ team and a girls’ team. And who would have thought it – we girls put in a particularly strong performance and achieved an excellent second place. Only the one, even more dominant, opposing team was able to finish ahead of us. Despite this strong competition, the result was a great success and was a source of great pride for our entire team.
There were also some special moments for our boys, for whom the tournament was less successful overall. Leon’s performance deserves special mention, as he managed to checkmate his opponent without losing a single piece. An extraordinary achievement that was highly commended.

A good move

An important factor for the successful tournament was the intensive preparation in advance within our guild, but we also regularly played, analysed and practised chess during breaks and free periods. We used every opportunity to try out new strategies and improve our game.
Overall, the chess tournament was a very positive experience for everyone involved. In addition to the sporting successes, the main focus was on having fun, learning together and fair competition. The next challenge is already in sight – our school community is in for a surprise.
